A two-day National Training Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Inventory Platform and Ecosystem, Reporting and Verification was organized in Islamabad with Special Guest Environment Secretary Naheed Shah Durrani.

Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop, Naheed Shah Durrani said that climate change has become a major concern for developing countries and Pakistan is also vulnerable to climate change. Despite Pakistan being the fifth largest country in the world in terms of population, greenhouse gas emissions in Pakistan are less than one percent and efforts are being made to reduce it further. A framework is being developed in the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Project to collect data on greenhouse gas inventories, share data, report data, and coordinate the organization's arrangements with the UNFCCC. The two-day workshop was attended by representatives of various institutions including education, research, donors, government of Pakistan and others. 


The participants expressed their views on the priorities of their organizations on climate change and said that it was important to conduct this training workshop. Arif Gohar, Head of Agriculture and Coordinator, GCISC, has launched the monitoring system project in collaboration with GIZ, which aims to improve the implementation of the system in Pakistan and formulate future strategies, he said.
