PLACED: Indian Army rescues tourist stranded in Kerala's mountain valleys for 48 hours

Indian Army climbers have rescued a wounded trekker who had been stranded without food and water for about 48 hours in a crack in a vertical mountain valley in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

R Babu, 23, slipped and fell into a ravine on Monday while hiking with three friends.

Earlier, three different rescue teams had failed to reach him. On Wednesday morning, the Indian Army finally contacted him and managed to rescue him.

The news website Manorama reported that the army personnel who had rescued him approached R. Babu and immediately gave him food and water to save his life. A member of the rescue team, wearing a safety belt, dragged him to the top of a hill.

The 1,000-foot (305-meter) Krombachi mountain range in Kerala's Placad district is famous for its vertical peaks, and the state forest department has already warned local tourists (trekkers) of the danger of climbing the hill. ۔

According to reports, when Babu slipped and fell from a hill on Monday and got stuck in a ravine, he had little space to sit inside.

The injured tourist, R. Babu, was seen sitting for 48 hours in a small space in a mountain valley.

At first, his friends tried to pull him out with sticks and ropes, but when they failed, they descended the hill to the city to seek help from the police.

KR Babu sent photos and selfies of the place to help the rescue team find them.

As rescue efforts intensified and large-scale surveillance began, drones were used. A drone was sent to the spot on the side of the hill where he was trapped.

On Tuesday, Coast Guard helicopters flew several times to reach it, but were unable to evacuate due to the mountain's topography and lack of modern equipment.

Rescue teams also failed to deliver food and water.

Local MP Shafi Prambel had expressed concern over Mr Babu's health. "By Tuesday afternoon, he was in a position to raise his hand and respond to rescue operators, but by evening he was very weak," he said.

An official with the Indian Army's rescue team told the Hindustan Times that authorities had used flammable lights on Tuesday night to keep wild animals away.
